In 1994, Jill and Arnold Bellowe helped establish the Friends of the Chautauqua Theater Company to support up-and-coming young actors and actresses. Last year, they caught up with a few of the young actors they supported at Chautauqua in the Broadway play, War Horse.
Those experiences are the reason the Bellowes are so deeply connected to the Chautauqua community. From the Cleveland area, the Bellowes and their children now reside in California. The entire family — Jill and Arnie, their daughter and son, and their three grandchildren — make the trip out to Chautauqua year after year and stays in the Bellowes’ house in Chautauqua Shores.
The Bellowes fell in love with Chautauqua while searching for a place to sail. Though sailing may have drew them in, the arts are what keep them coming back. Jill, a painter, and Arnie, a musician, celebrate more than 40 years at Chautauqua this summer.
