Concerts conclude Music Camps’ week of experimentation

If someone peeked into the studios of McKnight Hall this week, one could have found Pat Wheelhouse encouraging a group of fifth-graders to play a D major scale on mountain dulcimers in front of them. On the other side of the building, 78-year-old Linda Hubert could be heard shouting over rows of autoharp-playing students who strummed up a dull roar. And if someone just happened to be walking by the School of Music campus, the syncopated ruckus of a jazz band was hard to miss.

Gutiérrez, CSO reunite for Beethoven’s ‘greatest concerto’

Pianist Horacio Gutiérrez has performed in Chautauqua four times, but two of those stand out in his mind. His 2008 performance immediately followed a bout of lymphoma. His 2011 performance was the first his wife attended after she was struck by a bus in Miami. Thankfully, Gutiérrez said the circumstances for his return 8:15 p.m. tonight in the Amphitheater are decidedly mundane.
